Janine, Producer

Janine Ciccone is your fun-loving friend who likes to keep things in order. Born and raised in New Jersey, she started sneaking out to Union Square to hang with her Myspace scene friends at 15 and has been in love with NYC ever since. Starting her full-time career at 19 she made her way by inventing her own jobs at American Apparel, International Playground, and Canal St. Market. All of the skillsets she's acquired while having always been a culture-obsessed fan girl led her to be the perfect person to run the Downtown market, Hester Street Fair. She hopes to someday soon have an all-black King Cavalier named Fancy and keep traveling the world. She's the same height as Beyoncé and her favorite physical quality is her hair, and her favorite character quality is having the ability to catch on to who people really are in no time (thanks Mom & Dad).

1. How did you get involved with Hester St. Fair?

I sent a cold email back in 2018 while I was unemployed. The timing was perfect, they didn't have a manager, I swooped in and took over from there.

2. What is your favorite part about the work you do?

Creating an environment that anyone/everyone enjoys, when I get to create unique programming, picking the DJs, curating the vendor list every week.

3. What does community mean to you?

Supporting one another because that support will better another's situation.

4. What is something that gives you hope for the future?

I started taking anti-anxiety meds for the first time in my life so soon be unstoppable.

5. Do you have any self-care rituals?

I'm really big on using tea tree oil to clear my sinuses and invigorate my skin. Boil a pot of water till it boils with a lid on, put a towel over your head, take the lid off, add 2-3 drops of the oil, cover the pot with your face and towel, breathe in deep, clear sinuses, repeat 2-3 times. Follow that with a gua sha face massage and everything is good.

I'll also support going to therapy till the day I die. S/o to Manhattan Institute of Psychoanalysis who have sliding scale payment options for those who don't have insurance!
